The Raymond J. Schulte Music Education Scholarship Fund was established in July 1998. Mr. Schulte, known as the Godfather of the Clown Band, reorganized the band in 1947 after World War II. He also served as an advisor to the Clown Band board of directors. This fund provides financial aid for students who wish to continue their interests in the performing arts. Scholarships are given each summer to eligible students accepted to attend a camp, university, or other programs promoting music education and performing arts during the summer season. The Scottville Clown Band also maintains the Museum of Music at White Pine Village, jointly maintains the band shell in Scottville, funds the Bud Simms Memorial Grant and the Raymond J. Schulte/George F. Wilson Scholarship at West Shore Community College. Each year, scholarship recipients are invited to play a concert with the Scottville Clown Band. Now that’s a “big noise!”
